Paper Tower

Paper Tower

For this project, we were asked to create a six foot paper tower made entirely out of newspaper and masking tape. At the very top of the structure, we would have a one pound weight placed at the top to make sure it was structurally sound.

My intention for this project was to create a tower based off of triangles due to their strength. In researching, I came across the design of the Freedom Tower and the alternating pattern of right side up and upside down triangles. With this idea, I formulated the look of my structure

In forming the tower, I took individual sheets of newspaper and rolled them, then cut off the excess length. Then I would take masking tape and roll it onto itself creating a rope. With this rope, I would thatch the poles together. By doing so it would make the structure stronger and less bulky.

Wire Sculpture

Wire Sculpture

For this project, we were asked to create a portrait only using wire as the medium. We were paired up with a partner and sat across from one another and created a portrait of one another.

Unfortunately, the sculptures are still on display in Hopkins Hall so these photos were all that I could get.

Since I had finished my portrait earlier than my partner, I also made a five-panel hat.
